Shakira's 'Waka Waka' hits one billion views—Watch it here!

The official 2010 FIFA World Cup theme has helped Shakira become only the third Latin artist to achieve the impressive feat, following in the footsteps of Bruno Mars and his "Uptown Funk" collaboration with Mark Ronson, and Enrique Iglesias and his 2014 single "Bailando".

"Wow! Waka Waka now has more than a BILLION views! The song and the video that changed my life," Shakira, 38, posted on Twitter.
Shakira famously met and fell in love with her partner, Spanish soccer star Gerard Pique, while shooting the video in the spring of 2010. The couple has since become parents to two sons, three-year-old Milan, and Sasha.

Barack Obama's inspiration - Lord Hanuman

President disclosed this on a YouTube interview which the White House scheduled as a way to reach younger audiences as it promotes Obama's final State of the Union address on Tuesday.
Asked to show off an item of personal significance during the interview with YouTube creator Nilsen yesterday, 54-year-old Obama pulled from his pockets a series of small totems, each of which he said reminded him "of all the different people I've met along the way."
It included rosary beads given to him from Pope Francis, who he met at the White House this fall; a tiny Buddha statue procured upon him by a monk; a silver poker chip that was once
the lucky charm of a bald, mustachioed biker in Iowa; a figurine of the Hindu God Hanuman; and a Coptic cross from Ethiopia, where he visited in July, CNN reported.
"I carry these around all the time. I'm not that superstitious, so it's not like I think I necessarily have to have them on me at all times," Obama said.
But he said they do provide some reminders of the long path of his presidency.
"If I feel tired, or I feel discouraged sometimes, I can kind of reach into my pocket and say yeah, that's something I can overcome, because somebody gave me the privilege to work on these issues that are going to effect them," he said.
Obama, whose father was a Kenyan and mother a white woman from Kansas, spent initial days of his life in Indonesia where Hinduism is a popular religion.

Industrial recovery to be gradual, 2016 GDP growth at 7.8%: Nomura

According to the global financial services firm, the contraction in industrial production was significantly below expectations and the December industrial production growth should rebound.
Industrial production contracted 3.2 percent in November, its sharpest decline in four years.
"Given rising external headwinds, the industrial recovery is likely to remain gradual. Still, we expect India's GDP (market prices) growth to rise to 7.8 percent in 2016 from 7.3 percent in 2015...," Nomura said in a research note.
The report noted the gradual rise in growth numbers would be largely led by low commodity prices (which is positive for corporate profits), improving discretionary demand, gradual transmission of past rate cuts and higher public investment in infrastructure.
Moreover, normal monsoon in 2016 should also support rural demand.
"December industrial production growth should rebound, but the Chennai flood effect will also partly weigh on industrial output," Nomura said in the research note.
The report further noted "the sharp contraction in industrial production is an aberration, as underlying industrial growth is still positive, though industrial production growth appears to have lost some momentum towards the end of 2015."
On growth, Nomura said: "We expect India's GDP (market prices) growth to rise to 7.8 percent year-on-year in 2016 from 7.3 percent in 2015".
Nomura expects CPI inflation to average 5.4 percent in 2016, versus 5.8 percent earlier.
"Excluding the one-off technical rise (due to pay commission), we expect underlying CPI inflation to be stable at 5 percent in 2016," it said.
On monetary policy, it said that RBI is likely to go for a 25 basis point repo rate cut to 6.50 percent, owing to lower commodity prices and slower industrial momentum.
"Although an inter-meeting cut cannot be ruled out, our base case is for an April cut. Beyond that, we expect the RBI to stay on hold as there are upside risks to its medium-term inflation target," it said.
Reserve Bank's next bimonthly policy review is on February 2.

I-League: Defending champions Mohun Bagan walk past Salgaocar, Bengaluru win in Mizoram

For Bagan, skipper Katsumi Yusa's 9th minute header from a long throw-in by Dhanachandra Singh opened the scoring. Cornell Glen (28th minute), Luciano Sabrosa (33rd) and Balwant Singh (48th) completed the rout as the green and maroon brigade stamped their authority at home once again.

Salgaocar FC pulled back two goals through Darryl Duffy (69th) and Gurjinder Kumar (86th) but it was too late in the end.
The win comes at an important time with the Kolkata derby next Gameweek against East Bengal.
Meanwhile, earlier Bengaluru FC scored the lone goal in the 27th minute through Curtis Osana to the stunning silence of thousands of home supporters.
The home team made 14 goal attempts while their opponents managed had seven tries and Aizawl FC had 67 per cent ball possession in the first half.
Aizawl FC had lost their opening match to Mohun Bagan 1-3 in Kolkata on January 9.

New molecule to track cancer drug in the body

The researchers at The Ohio State University in US created a luminescent molecule, called a peptide and made up of two amino acids. Then they hitched that light to the cancer medication so that it showed the chemo's arrival within cells.
"This is very important for personalised medicine. We really want to see what's going on when we give chemo drugs and this work paves the way for the exciting endeavour," said Mingjun Zhang, a biomedical engineering professor who led the study.
Biomedical engineers strive to find techniques that behave naturally within the body and leave without doing harm.
This research holds promise for doing just that because the peptide is one that should easily coexist with human cells and leave as harmlessly as it entered.
"You can combine your drug with this luminescent vehicle. Composed of natural amino acids, the nanoparticle is inherently biocompatible," said Zhang.
In the body or tissue of an animal or person, scientists would watch the fluorescent signal with an optical detection system, he said.
Researchers sandwiched their peptide to a common chemotherapy drug so that its light was hidden until the two elements peeled apart upon entering the cells.
Zhang was particularly delighted to see that the blue peptide, which can be seen under ultraviolet light, maintained its luminescence for extended periods of time.
Previous work to track drugs using organic dyes has been hampered by their tendency to fade with time.
"You can label it and you can attach it to a drug and see where the drug goes and when it is released," Zhang said.
It could give patients and their doctors information on how well and how quickly a medication is working for them.
"Maybe for some people a drug is taking effect in a few minutes and for somebody else it's hours and for somebody else it never takes effect," Zhang said.
The research team used doxorubicin, a widely used chemotherapy drug, for their lab work, but the discovery could apply to different types of treatments, they said.
A study was published in the journal Nature Nanotechnology.

Team India upbeat after warm-up

The WA bowlers kept pegging things back with regular wickets and Rahane's departure once again spelt trouble for the Men in Blue.
Rohit Sharma and Manish Pandey sparkled with half-centuries but rest of India's batsmen put up a lacklustre performance before the bowlers came good to hand the team a 64-run win over a second string Western Australia XI in the warm-up one-day cricket match on Saturday.

Electing to bat, the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led side did not have the best of starts, losing two quick wickets but Rohit Sharma (67) and Ajinkya Rahane (41) stitched an 88-run third-wicket partnership to help the visitors put up a respectable score.
Shikhar Dhawan (4) and Virat Kohli (7), who were top-scorers in the first warm-up T20 game on Friday, failed to get going as they fell to new-ball bowler Drew Porter, who bagged a five-wicket haul.

The WA bowlers kept pegging things back with regular wickets and Rahane's departure once again spelt trouble for the Men in Blue.

Barring Tests, Shikhar Dhawan, who has had a decent record Down Under will look to provide that opening start to establish a stern foundation.

Although Virat Kohli failed to shine in the WACA encounter, his performance will prove vital going into the series that gets underway on January 12.
Post the matches, members of the Indian cricket team were seen signing autographs. Dhawan seen signing a few for his fans.
Mumbai star cricketer Ajinkya Rahane didn't miss out the opportunity to click a few selfies along with his fans.

Newly-married Rohit Sharma too obliged to his fans signing autographs and T-shirts for his fans.

UK's Cameron taunted after opposition Twitter feed hacked

The out-of-character messages appeared on Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn's Twitter feed late yesterday, but were soon erased.

No one has claimed responsibility for the prank. "davey cameron is a pie" one of the messages read, while another used foul language to make reference to Corbyn's opposition to Britain's nuclear defence system.
The tweets were shared hundreds of times before being erased and Internet users were soon sharing screenshots of the offending messages. Britain's Press Association quoted an unnamed source close to Corbyn on the incident. "At least they weren't subtle," the source said.

5 Most bizarre vehicles ever made

VZ-9A Avrocar: This flying saucer was actually created to be a flying car. Tested by the US Air Force in the 1950s in a partnership project with Canada, the hovercraft barely flew 4-6 feet high, and failed to stabilize or fly any higher than that.

Fiat Panda 4x4 monster truck: This version of Fiat Panda was made for a television commercial, and has now been retired to a museum.

Peraves Ecomobile: This vehicle originated from a BMW K series motor-cycle engine. This one has a set of front and back wheels, with a smaller set of side wheels, that automatically deploy electrically at low speeds, to keep it from tipping over. The car has many features of a luxury car, except for a steering wheel! Yes, the vehicle actually steers with handlebars like a motorcycle.

1967 OSI Silver Fox prototype: Made by the Italian car manufacturer OSI in the 1960s, this car was able to reach a hundred mile per hour, even though it was a bit aerodynamically challenged. Unfortunately the company ran out of money in 1968.

Zombie Proof Maybach: Are you worried about the zombie apocalypse? You aren’t alone! Based on the 2005 Maybach Exelero protoype, this monster vehicle features tracks on rear wheel, which are inspired by tanks, to help you drive around or over zombies. The car also has machine guns and a rocket launcher mounted on its back.

The future of Indian sports, the stars of 2016

S Chikkarangappa (Golf): Bengaluru lad, known as Chikka, clinched his maiden Rolex Player of the Year title for the PGTI order of merit. He considers cricketer Rahul Dravid as an inspiration.

Sumit Nagal (Tennis): A student of Mahesh Bhupathi, he won the junior men’s doubles title at the Wimbledon this year. He is clearly the future of Indian tennis.

Sarfaraz Khan (Cricket): The latest sensation who emerged from the maidans of Mumbai, Sarfaraz’s glories never seem to end. After donning the IPL jersey, now he is all set for U-19 World Cup.

Satnam Singh (Basketball): It was a proud moment for India-born Satnam Singh Bhamara after he became the first Indian basketball player to be drafted in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He is expected to mature and stand out in the crowd, and inspire other Indian kids to take up the sport.

Robin Singh (Football): He could be India’s solution to the “Where is another Sunil Chhetri?” problem. A star player for Delhi Dynamos in the Indian Super League, Robin also found the net twice in India’s 2-0 win over Sri Lanka in SAFF cup.

Ranveer Singh Saini (Golf): He stamped his name in the record books after he became the first Indian to bag a gold medal at the Special Olympics World Games. The Gurgaon-based 14-year-old golfer was diagnosed with autism, a neurological disorder, at the age of 2. He started playing golf at the age of nine.

7 incredible uses of 3D printing

3D printing is a fairly new concept that involves making three-dimensional solid objects out of digital files. It is a multifaceted process that includes laying down of successive layers of material until the final design is created. 3D printing is increasingly becoming an important tool for doctors, artists, scientists, teachers and home designers. On that note, here are some shocking 3D printed things.

3D printed concrete buildings are heavily utilised by real estate businesses and builders. In the future, builders and architects expect 3D printing to drastically cut production costs, while manufacturing buildings and houses.

3D printed artwork is gradually becoming a common practice among digital artists, fashion designers, and home decorators. There are several companies that even take some elementary sketches and turn them into 3D models. So what are you waiting for? Start doodling and get your 3D printed object soon!
3D printed food was first introduced for making food in space. However, some companies have now started to incorporate 3D printed foods in their menu and pundits predict that by 2016, 3D printed food will become a common trend.
3D printed cars are also expected to be the future of car manufacturing in the future. One company has already started manufacturing 3D printed cars and claim to hold the future to green car manufacturing. Well, building a car using printing might sound weird, but if the process is safe, it can seriously revolutionise the car manufacturing industry.

3D printed skulls are one of the most bizarre objects on this list. As strange as it seems, you will be surprised to know that a 3D printed skull has been implanted in a patient’s head by hospital in Netherlands to improve pressure on her brain. This technology will be very handy for all doctors treating patients suffering from head/ skull injuries.

3D printed babies…well, if you thought printed skulls were bizarre, this is just on another level. 3D printed babies gives people the chance to have an early glimpse of their unborn baby. A company has started creating artistic representations of unborn babies using 3D printing technology and Ultra-sound report.

3D printed pets are also coming into the picture as a Japanese company has started creating exact replications of your pet. The company only needs a few photos of your pets, which they use to print a brilliant 3D image of your pet.

Jayalalithaa thanks PM Modi on jallikattu decision; Celebrations mark TN

The Centre's notification allowing jallikattu in Tamil Nadu was on Friday welcomed by political leaders as well as organisers and other stakeholders, with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his 'prompt response' in the matter.

Rural parts of the state especially southern districts, where the bull taming sport is popular during the annual Pongal festivities in mid-January, celebrated the Centre's decision with jallikattu organisers and the sport lovers bursting crackers and distributing sweets.
In a letter to the Prime Minister, Jayalalithaa who pursued the matter with him said, "I am very grateful to you for your prompt response in the matter, which has enabled the conduct of Jallikattu."
She said the sport "upholds traditional cultural values and traditions of Tamil Nadu and has great historical significance and also ensures the conservation of native germ plasm and continuance of traditional breeds of indigenous cattle".

Central government allows `Jallikattu' in Tamil Nadu

People at places like Madurai and Trichy, where Jallikattu is traditionally held, were the most elated.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision.
"I am very grateful to you for your prompt response in the matter, which has enabled the conduct of `Jallikattu', a sport which upholds traditional cultural values and traditions of Tamil Nadu and has great historical significance and also ensures the ... continuance of traditional breeds of indigenous cattle," she said in a communication to Modi.
"I am very happy to learn that the ministry of environment, forests and climate change has issued a notification that has paved the way for the conduct of the traditional sport," she said.
The central government bowed to the strong demand made by various organisations and political parties to permit the traditional bull taming sport that was banned by the Supreme Court to prevent cruelty to animals.
The central government, in a gazette notification, removed bulls form the list of animals that are banned from public display.
The central government allowed bulls to be exhibited as a performing animal at Jallikattua and bullock-cart races in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Punjab, Haryana, Kerala and Gujarat.
Leaders of various political parties in Tamil Nadu welcomed the central government's decision to allow Jallikattu.
DMK president M Karunanidhi thanked the central government and the steps taken by union minister Pon Radhakrishnan and others for lifting the ban on the traditional sport.
MDMK leader Vaiko and PMK founder S. Ramadoss also welcomed the Centre's decision.
However, the permission is subject to conditions like sanction from the district collector or the district magistrate.
The bullock-cart races are to be held on proper track and the bulls have to be tamed within a distance of 15 metres from their enclosure.
The bulls should also be put to proper testing by officials of the animal husbandry and veterinary department ensuring their good health and no performance enhancing drugs are administered to them.
In May 2014, the Supreme Court upheld a notification by the environment and forests ministry categorising bulls in the list of animals which shall not be exhibited or trained as performing animals.
The Tamil Nadu government filed a review petition before the Supreme Court.
