Shots fired accidentally outside prime minister's residence


Shots were fired “accidentally” by a Delhi police constable during a shift change outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 7, Race Course Road residence here on Wednesday night, sending security officials into a tizzy.
The police constable was handing his AK-47 rifle over to his colleague when it accidentally went off. The rifle went off due to a mechanical glitch and has been sent for forensic examination.
Around three to four rounds were accidentally were fired from the rifle. A senior police official said that no one was injured in the incident that occurred at about 8.30 pm during change of duty in the media parking lot opposite the Prime Minister’s residence in the posh Lutyens’ bungalow area.
“The police constable was posted with the PCR. His shift was about to get over and he was about to hand over his gun to his colleague when it went off accidentally,” the official said.
He added that an inquiry was immediately initiated into the incident and action would be taken if the said constable was found guilty. According to highly-placed sources, Intelligence Bureau and other agencies will probe the incident
