A dejected Mumbai City FC coach Nicolas Anelka said that his players did not deserve to wear the team jersey after being thrashed 0-7 by FC Goa on Tuesday.
His side thrashed 0-7 by FC Goa in an Indian Super League (ISL) match here, a dejected Mumbai City FC coach Nicolas Anelka said that his players did not deserve to wear the team jersey.
Anelka, a former Chelsea and France national team star, described Mumbai's 0-7 defeat at the hands FC Goa as the worst in his life. The 7-0 win by FC Goa was the biggest in ISL.
"It's the worst defeat in my life and our players don't deserve to wear the Mumbai FC jersey after today's humiliating defeat," Anelka said at the post-match press conference.
"Everything went wrong and I tried to change the tactic in the second half after being down by 0-2 but the boys failed to cope up and gave a lot of space to the rival players to attack from the flanks.
"Now, we have to sit and see what went wrong and rectify the mistakes and win the remaining four matches if we are to reach the semi-finals. We had chance to go to the top but our boys failed to cash in on the opportunity and made things difficult for us to reach the semi-finals," said the player-cum-coach of Mumbai.
FC Goa coach Zico was very happy with his boys for today's impressive win.
"The boys played to our plans and it was the result of collective effort. The win has put us on the right track to qualify for the semi-finals. Now we have to keep the winning momentum and try to qualify as early as possible and not to depend on other teams result," stated Zico.
Zico said he was happy the way young Thongkoisep Haokip, who scored a hat-trick, performed on Tuesday.
